Join Our Board!
Hello RHS Chorus Families,
Thank you for all of the hard work and support you bring to the RHS Chorus community every day!
After a busy and successful first semester of learning, performing, and growing, we’re looking ahead to 2026 with excitement. The RHS Choral Boosters are here to support Dr. Usher and the fabulous, hardworking RHS singers every step of the way, with the shared goal of building a strong foundation to sustain the singers and the program for years to come!
We always welcome family participation in Booster activities - we don’t just welcome it, we rely on it! - and we have several positions open on the Board for 2026. Below are some questions and answers, and brief descriptions of the openings. Please reach out to us if you have interest in one of the positions, or in volunteering in another way. Thank you for your consideration!
What’s the term? Secretary and the VP roles have a calendar year term (Jan 1 - Dec 31). President-elect and Treasurer-elect are in place for 18 months: June 1-Dec 31 as “elect,” shadowing the sitting President and Treasurer, and then Jan 1 - Dec 31 in the position. The terms are set this way so that the outgoing Board members are still “around” and available - support is the name of the game.
What’s the meeting schedule? The Board meets approximately once a month with Dr Usher during the academic year. Meetings are set in advance and held in person with virtual options as needed, usually in the Chorus room at 6pm on a weeknight. Other ad hoc meetings are possible via conference call or in person. Over the summer, at least one meeting is called to review and vote on the proposed budget and to make plans for the next academic year.
I’m not sure about a Board position. Can I be involved in another way? Yes, please! We have other roles and responsibilities available - spearheading a certain event like the Youth Day Parade, for example, or serving as a liaison to other groups at RHS. Please let us know your talents, abilities, interests, and thoughts - we’d love it!
Do I really have time for this? We can’t answer that for you, but we can tell you that everyone on the Board is busy with work, life, and more life - so we are very flexible with scheduling and dedicated to good planning and communication about needs and expectations. We are a collaborative, friendly group that always has each other’s backs.
Brief descriptions of roles follow - please contact us with your questions!
Secretary: Is it written down? The Secretary is there! Duties include sharing agendas and minutes for Board meetings, proofreading and managing communications (such as flyers and the Booster website), and coordinating thank-yous and gifts from the Board.
VP Fundraising: A few times a year, the Boosters or the students take on specific fundraising activities - a night when a local business donates a percentage of proceeds or an online fund drive, for instance. The Boosters also raise funds by selling concessions or other goodies (like flowers) at performances. This role includes those efforts and is open to coming up with creative new ways to bring in much-needed financial support.
VP Membership: Spearheads family, alumni, and community membership and participation in the Boosters and RHS Chorus. Answers questions, recruits new Boosters and supporters, and follows up to maintain good communication and build support.
VP Special Events: Serves as point person for the Chorus’s flagship concerts - think Sing & Swing and the Spring Concert, among others. Plan the stage and lobby decorations, plan for student meals and snacks when needed, coordinate volunteers and keep the train on the tracks!
At-Large Board: (2 available seats) Contributes ideas, helps where help is needed, and helps shape the Board operations and plans for the future.
President-Elect (2027): Manages overall Board operations, including patron and sponsor relations, making sure events are well-planned and happen as planned, community outreach, and collaborating with Board members and “pitching in” where needed for individual events and performances.
Treasurer-Elect (2027): Proposes and manages the Booster budget, including collecting receipts for reimbursement and processing patrons and sponsorships. Provides a report at each Board meeting.
We would love to have you become a part of our board and if you're interested email us at: RHSChorusPresident@gmail.com.
Kind Regards,
Kendra Cox,
President-Elect 2025
